Connolly’s Stardust Room opens.

August 31, 1955

(Aug.) [1957] Operated by Jim Connolly, the jazz club is located at 1184 Tremont Street. Jazz historian Phil Wilson later writes, “Any jazz player raised in Boston cut his teeth at Connolly’s.” Performers include Chick Correia, Stan Getz, Keith Jarrett, and Herb Pomeroy. Jim Connolly Jr. takes over ownership of the club in 1972. The property is taken by the city through eminent domain in 1976, but, managed by Winnie Halford and others, it continues to operate until April 1998.
